UNIVERSITY OF CAMBODIA AWARDS STUDENTS AT THE ART AND SCULPTURE COMPETITION


The University of Cambodia (UC) awarded three students in secondary level schools 2010 who finished in the top three of the art of drawing and sculpture competition that took place for five days. The handing over ceremony of awards was held on July 15th under the presidency of H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn,
President of The University of Cambodia, who later handed over admiration letters to all students who did not win the competition this time.
H.E. Samraing Kamsan, Council Member of the board of trustees for The University of Cambodia, has declared the result for the art of drawing and sculpture competition that Nuth Khem, student from Wat Koh Secondary School who won 1st prize on the subject “highlighting charity and humanity” he received two million
riel with an admiration letter and will take one week to visit Japan and take part in the International High School Art Competition. As for Srun Sengky, a student from Wat Koh Secondary School who was runner up with one million and sixty thousand riel while Sao Sok Vansak, a student from Wat Koh also fi nished in 3rd place and received one million and twenty thousand riel.
Nuth Khem who studies in Wat Koh secondary school stated I have one sister and my father passed away and my mother is a farmer in Kam pot province I came to live in Phnom Penh with other relatives, it is a great privilege for me to win the competition, I wanted to show my ability regarding the topic of the competition
and it is very interesting to me. I would personally like to thank the organizers of the competition Dr.Kao Kim Hourn President of UC and also Dr. Haruhisa Handa Chancellor of UC who supported this great opportunity for students like me to be able to travel to Japan.
Srun Sengky also from Wat Koh in grade 11 lives in Phnom Penh has two brothers and a sister and is the middle son, he entered the competition because Art to him is a matter of inspiration and he has a great love for what he does Sao Sok Vansak fi nished in third place commented that he has had massive support from all of his family and he was delighted to finish inthird lace, as well as studying at Wat Koh he also attended Reyum Institute which is an Art school, he finished
off by saying he loves to paint .
H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, who is also Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said at the awards ceremony that this is the 6th time the art, drawing and sculpture competition which have been organized by The University of Cambodia. The drawing of the 1st class will be exhibiting
in Japan on 29th July 2010.
“I admire all candidates who did not receive an award this time, but you all share in the strong memory of what has been achieved here,” he said. “I hope that all students who love being creative with art will join the competition next year.” (SEAW)
